When it comes to creating a welcoming and inviting home, some guys may feel unsure about what a female guest may be keeping an eye out for.
Heck, some guys may be unsure of what they like to see in their own home! If you didn’t grow up with a copy of Architectural Digest on the coffee table, your familiarity with design and interiors may still be at the intro level. Thankfully, as is the case with discovering your personal style, it’s all about diving in.
After all, you’ll only learn what you like by actually asking yourself, What do I like?
The good news? Women want to see most of the same things you’ll find that you appreciate in a home. And there are certain elements that can make a man’s home more attractive to women…and more appealing to come home to for yourself.
Here are 6 tips on what women want to see in a man’s home:
1. Cleanliness and Tidiness

Consider this the Golden Rule of Green Flags.
Before clocking any decorating decisions, one of the most important things women want to see in a man’s home is cleanliness and tidiness.
A clean home shows that you value your space and take pride in your surroundings.
Note that doesn’t mean women are looking for a space devoid of personality or color. But last week’s The Economist? A crumpled plastic CVS bag? Your dirty gym socks? No thank you.
Make sure your space is clutter-free and well-organized, and pay attention to details such as dusting and vacuuming.

2. Comfortable Furniture

Comfortable furniture is key to creating a welcoming and inviting space.
Invest in a sofa or armchair that feels like heaven falling into it, and add soft furnishings such as cushions and throws.
This will make your home feel cozy and inviting, and show guests that you value their comfort.

3. Personal Touches

Personal touches are important in creating a home that reflects your personality and style.
Decorate with items that showcase your interests and hobbies, such as artwork, books, or (yes) sports memorabilia.
Tasteful, thoughtful decor shows women that you are passionate and interesting, and gives them something to share with their friends later (“He had a framed Cindy Sherman print..I’m in love!”).

4. A Bed That’s Made

If her visit to your home ends in a trip to the bedroom? Make sure what she sees won’t make her want to turn on her heel and high tail it out of there.
We don’t use a lot of “should’s” on Style Girlfriend, but your bed SHOULD be made. It SHOULD be comfortable. You SHOULDN’T have had the mattress since college. There SHOULD be more than two pillows.
Whew, okay, got that out of our system. But seriously, the bedroom is not the place to disappoint a woman, and we mean that in more ways than one…
5. A Well-Stocked Kitchen

A kitchen that can produce (almost) everything she could want is essential in creating a well-rounded, welcoming home experience.
That doesn’t mean the pile of chicken breasts in the freezer that you keep meaning to meal prep with.
It means investing in quality kitchenware like beautiful wine glasses, sustainably sourced cloth napkins, or a really great coffee maker and cups that actually match.
And having beverages and easy-to-make snacks on hand. You don’t need to all-out MTV Cribs, but having a couple alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, along with the basic fixings of a charcuterie board go a long, long way.
Why? It shows women that you are capable and thoughtful. It keeps her on her toes, too. Did you do all this for her, or are you just the type of guy who keeps prosciutto and Prosecco in the fridge?
Guess she’ll just have to come back again and see.

6. Some Greenery

Adding plants and greenery to your home can make it feel more alive and inviting.
Choose easy-to-care-for plants such as succulents or snake plants, and add them to the rooms you spend the most time in.
And okay, yes, fake plants count, too.
But! Consider this a challenge! Start with just one hardy plant and try to keep it alive for thirty days.

The tl;dr of impressing women with your home?
Creating a home that is welcoming and attractive to us ladies is about more than just following a set of rules or guidelines (even if these are some good tips, if we do say so ourselves!).
It’s about creating a space that reflects your personality and style, while also being clean, comfortable, and inviting – for yourself and for others.
By thoughtfully investing in your home decor, your home will inevitably make any woman feel comfortable and at ease.
