Considering trying out Blumaan hair products but aren’t sure if they’re worth it? Read on to find out!
Blumaan (a.k.a Joe Andrews) is one of the most popular men’s hair tutorial Youtubers out there. He’s known for demystifying the hair styling process to help you look your best.
A few years ago, leveraging his internet clout, Joe launched a line of “Blumaan” hair products.
In this review, I share my findings from testing out several Blumaan products.
How to Use BluMaan Hair Products
After months of experimentation, I’ve started to use the same general process when using all BluMaan products.
I start by towel-drying my hair until it’s about 85% dry. Then I take about a dime-sized amount of BluMaan and emulsify it in my hands, and apply it to my hair, starting from the back working towards the front.
Next, I blow dry my hair while using a vented brush, first on medium heat and then on the cool setting to lock everything in place.
Finally, I use a little bit more BluMaan to do a few finishing touches before getting on with my day.
I’ve tried using BluMaan products in a bunch of different combinations. I’ve found that starting with the Monarch paste and finishing off with Meraki works well. Also, Monarch alone creates an even more matte look.
Check out Joe’s Youtube channel for more hair-styling tips. Naturally, he has many videos about using his products.
Original Styling Meraki by Blumaan
Meraki Original is BluMaan’s flagship product — an all-around product that works for many different hair types and hairstyles.
About Meraki, The Modest Man contributor Eric Rodriguez told me:
“It definitely has good hold and no greasy feeling, unless, of course, you overdo it. You really just need a pea-sized amount. I love how it basically gets my hair in the style I want by just running it through my hair. [Use] any product after that [to] get the perfect look.
The hold is great. You can reshape it throughout the day and it still holds — not as great as the initial application, but it’s still there.”
Personally, Meraki isn’t my favorite. It leaves my hair feeling greasy and looking shinier than I’d like (although according to Eric’s comments, maybe I was using too much).
That said, it’s still better than a lot of other products I’ve tried. I’ve found that performs better when my hair is short rather than on the longer side.
Blumaan Ascend Volume Cream + Heat Protectant
Supposedly, BluMaan’s volumizer is supposed to function as a heat-protectant and help add volume.
Honestly, I don’t know how much the BluMaan volumizer actually helps. I’ve used it as a pre-styler before blow drying, and I’ve used it alone.
As a pre-styler, it does a decent job at taming bedhead without me needing to get my hair wet.
I only use a blow dryer on medium heat for two minutes max, so I don’t personally feel a need for a heat protectant. Since I haven’t noticed any damage without a heat protectant, I can’t really say how well it works on this front.
Similarly, I can’t really say if it gives my hair more volume or not. It’s difficult for me to tell.
When I’ve used Ascend on its own, it leaves my hair feeling kind of crunchy — especially if my hair is even a little bit damp when applied.
Monarch Matte Paste by Blumaan
I found that Blumaan’s Monarch paste performed the best for me. While it’s hard to tell if Ascend gave me more volume, Monarch definitely does.
Monarch is great to use both before and after blowdrying. The light paste and matte finish work well with my hair type. It hold all day and leaves my hair looking natural.
Common Questions About BluMaan Products
Here are answers to questions people are asking about Blumaan on the web:
Is Blumaan sold in stores?
I don’t think that Bluuman products are sold in brick-and-mortar stores. At least, I couldn’t find any store locations.
Where can I buy Blumaan hair products?
It is available online through Blumaan’s website or their Amazon shop.
Which Blumaan product is best for my hair?
It depends on your hair type. Check out Joe’s videos for more information, or take this “hair quiz” near the middle of this page.
My Recommendation
Overall, I’m pretty impressed with Blumaan hair products. While they’re kind of pricey, they’re the best I’ve ever used.
While I’m not a fan of the Ascend cream and got mixed results with Meraki, the Monarch matte paste is incredible.
However, this is all subjective. I feel like how well hair-styling work is really up to one’s individual biology. A product that works great for my hair might not work at all for you.
I’d recommend trying out Blumaan’s Discovery Style Kit to try out several of their different products without breaking the bank.
