If “Sex and the City” raised you, chances are “And Just Like That. . .” is one of your new comfort shows. But if you’re a mega fan with an affinity for beauty and know both series like the back of your hand, you may have noticed that Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, never wears nail polish.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine, Parker reveals a myriad of reasons why her character skips out on regular manicures, chief among them being that she is a writer. “[Manicures] seemed (a) futile because it would always be messed up and (b) an obstacle on the speedy road toward thoughts being written,” she tells the publication. “It just never seemed that it was where Carrie would spend her time expressing herself.”
Executive producer Michael Patrick King agreed, saying that the decision was intentional. “Anything that Carrie wears that you see on camera is well thought-out by the wardrobe department and Sarah Jessica,” he says. “She really tries to play both sides, the high and the low, the real and the fantasy. So notably, she never wears nail polish.”
With that, you may want to keep an eye out during the next few episodes of “And Just Like That. . .” because Parker shared that Bradshaw does end up wearing a pretty bold nail color at one point. “I thought it would be interesting to do, given the outfits and given the environment in which those scenes take place,” she says. We, for one, can’t wait to see this new manicure.
